It’s no big secret that Joss Whedon is a fan of Ridley Scott’s Alien universe — especially considering that he wrote Alien: Resurrection — but Joss’s Alien fandom also takes subtler forms. This easter egg from the pilot episode of Firefly, for example.

The logo at the top of the HUD interface for an anti-aircraft cannon that Mal fires during the famous Battle of Serenity Valley bears a striking resemblance to the insignia certain prominent corporation from the Alien series.

Fans have noted that the titular ship in Prometheus looks quite a bit like Serenity. Would it be too much to hope that the design is the result of mutual fan-love among sci-fi creators, rather than just a coincidence?
